In Almaty, the power plant that produces electricity from solar energy has started to operate, which produces 100 Megawatts. Kazpravda.kz News Agency reported this launch to the public on press with the spokesman of Almaty Municipality.

The opening ceremony was held before the power plant’s operation. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Jenish Kasymbek and Amandyk Batalov, Mayor of Almaty Region attended the ceremony. The construction and installation of the power plant costed 27.7 billion tenge according to the report of the company’s representatives. 220 kWh high-voltage power cable that costed 233 million tenge was covered by the budget of Almaty Region.

Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Kasymbek: “There is great demand for electricity in the Almaty region. Therefore, we need a lot projects of this kind. In addition, no one could believe that a power plant that produces electricity from solar energy can be installed and ready to operate within a year. Today, there are 70 power plants throughout the country producing the electricity. 20 of them are located in Almaty Region. In our country, 800 MW of electricity is generated by wind, solar and water every year. Local businessmen are also trying to implement such projects. The government helps them as much as possible. This is a long-term project of the future. 500 of local employees worked for 11 companies that participated in the installation process of the power plant. After its completion, 35 permanent companies were opened”.
