The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan opened the Japanese market for the export of Kazakh horse meat and horses, Kazpravda,kz reported with the reference to the press service of the Department.

It is reported that the launch of the new market was preceded by a lot of preparatory work. For the development of the export potential in 2018, the Committee of Veterinary Control and Supervision of Ministry of Agriculture sent the first request to the foreign colleagues, expressing the interest of Kazakh farmers and entrepreneurs to supply Japanwith the horse meat.

"As a result of lengthy negotiations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan agreed on a veterinary certificate for export of meatfrom the Republic of Kazakhstan to Japan, including raw meat products and offal. Japan also sent an official notification of the opening of exports from May 25, 2020. It should be noted that Japan is interested not only in importing horse meat, but also in purchasing horses for slaughter," the report says.

The main exporter of horse meat to Japan has always been Canada up to this day. In Japan, horse meat has long been consumed in the raw form, and it is accepted as a delicacy. The meat cut from the ribs is especially valued for its good taste. Horsemeat is used for sushi and sashimi meat cuts.
