The European Union (EU) plans to provide 72 million euros in financial aid to Central Asian countries.

The European Union-Central Asia session was held in Bishkek on 7 July. The meeting was attended by Federica Mogherini, the EU's High Representative for Foreign and Security Policies, and the foreign ministers of five Central Asian countries. At the end of the meeting it was decided to provide additional financial support for the states in the region. In addition to the € 1 billion in financial aid granted and to be provided between 2014 and 2020, the EU will provide a further € 72 million in financial support. The EU issued a statement on July 7 that it has allocated € 20 million in financial support for the construction of a dam in Tajikistan. The reason for the establishment of the dam is to meet the electricity needs of the people and to ensure the export of electricity to the northern regions of Afghanistan.
