Kyrgyzstan is discussing with Russia the issue of supplying the antiviral drug "Avifavir" for the treatment of coronavirus, the head of the public health Department of the Ministry of Health AinuraAkmatova said at a briefing.

Earlier it became known that such a drug will be delivered to Kazakhstan. Akmatova recalled that last week a delegation headed by Deputy head of Rospotrebnadzor Vyacheslav Smolensky arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic from Russia.

"In the delegation there are also representatives of Scientific Research Institute named after Bakulev, intensive care. The issue of  avifavir is currently being discussed. Our expert advisory groups are also considering it," Akmatova said.

Avifavir (international generic name - favipiravir) promises to be the most effective drug against COVID-19 in the world. Since 2014, it has been used to treat severe forms of flu in Japan. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Russian scientists modified the drug and changed the treatment Protocol.
