The 10th Asian Congress of the Valdai Discussion Club began on 11 November 2019 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The topic of the forum was determined as a “Multilateral Cooperation in Combating Global Disorders in Central Asia and Eurasia”.
According to information from the Uzreport.news news site, more than 60 experts from 11 countries are participating in the 10th Asian Congress organized by Valdai Discussion Forum and the Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies of the Presidency of Uzbekistan. Experts from Russia, Uzbekistan, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, the Philippines, Sweden, Japan and India are participating in the congress.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Uzbek Security Council Secretary Viktor Mahmudov read the message of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Noting that Central Asia has played an increasingly important role in Eurasia and the world geopolitics, President Mirziyoyev said, in his message, “As a result of our joint efforts, friendship, neighborhood and cooperation relations, Central Asian countries have achieved a new atmosphere in a short time. The political confidence environment has increased significantly, which enables effective regional resolution of vital issues today. Common ideas were found on state borders, the use of water resources, transportation and trade. Uzbekistan has always committed itself to expanding regional cooperation in many ways. Our main goal as Uzbekistan is to ensure that Central Asia becomes an economically developed, stable and peaceful center of cooperation.”
Congress participants have the opportunity to exchange views on how Central Asia’s integration process should be moved to wider international cooperation.
The Valdai Discussion Forum was held for the first time in 2004 near Valdai Lake in Veliky Novgorod, Russia. The center of the forum, named after Valdai Lake, where the first one was held, is located in Moscow, the capital of Russia.
