On Friday, October 5, the official meeting of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe took place, the press service of the Tajik leader said.
The meeting of heads of state with the participation of members of official delegations of the two countries discussed issues of cooperation.
President Emomali Rakhmon noted that throughout the bilateral cooperation, the Government of Japan implemented over 426 social projects worth over $ 350 million in Tajikistan and all these programs coincide with the strategic goals of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
He also said that the renewal of the "Dusti-Lower Pyanj" and "Kurgan-Tyube-Dusti" highway is a vivid example of cooperation between the two countries and meets the requirements of Tajikistan’s strategic goals in the field of getting out of the communication impasse.
During the meeting, the significant contribution of the International Development Agency of Japan (JICA) and the "Japan + Central Asia" Dialogue to strengthening cooperation was highlighted.
It was emphasized that following the results of last year the volume of commodity turnover between the two countries amounted to 40 million dollars, which, compared with the previous year, is more than 10 million dollars.
The sides exchanged views on cooperation of countries in the trade and economic sphere, technical and humanitarian cooperation, implementation of 50 documents signed earlier, participation of Japan in the implementation of important social projects, concessional loans, the creation of a joint investment Fund.
During the meeting other issues of mutual interest were also discussed. After the completion of meetings and negotiations of Tajikistan and Japan at the highest level the signing ceremony with the participation of heads of state of esteemed Emomali Rahmon and esteemed Shinzo Abe, where 7 new cooperation agreements signed was held:
- The program of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for 2019-2021;
- Memorandum on the project “Scholarship program for human development (JDS project);
- Grant agreement on the project “Training Scholarships for Human Resources Development (JDS project);
- Memorandum on the period of pre-Olympic preparation and training before the Tokyo-2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games between the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan and the Japanese city of Aomori and the Agreement on cooperation between the NOC of Tajikistan and the Japanese Olympic Committee ;
- Memorandum of Cooperation between the Committee on Youth and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Japan;
- Memorandum between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Japan.
After the ceremony of signing new documents on cooperation, the heads of state Emomali Rahmon and Shinzo Abe organized a press conference for a wide range of journalists, which summed up the summit meetings and bilateral negotiations.
