In Tajikistan, on September 9 and 28th anniversary of independence, the second unit of the Rogun Dam hydropower plant was launched.

The launch ceremony of the second unit was attended by: President Emomali Rahmon, chairman of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali, Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda, members of the government, heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Tajikistan, as well as construction companies of Rogun Dam.

According to the country’s Ministry of Finance, 2.1 billion somoni ($ 222.6 million) were allocated from the state budget for the construction of the Rogun Dam hydroelectric power station this year, Avesta reports.

According to the agency, an additional 4.7 billion somoni ($ 498.4 million) were allocated for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric station last year.

 About 3.4 billion of the indicated 4.7 billion somoni were allocated from the state budget, another part of the amount was allocated from the Eurobonds sale proceeds.

Rogun Dam hydroelectric power station is the 9th cascade of hydroelectric power stations on the Vakhsh river, located 110 kilometers from Dushanbe. According to the project, the hydropower plant consists of 6 units, each of which has a capacity of 600 MW.

The height of the stone-filled dam of the hydroelectric power station is 335 meters, which is the highest in the world (according to the type). The Rogun HPP itself, with a production capacity of 3,600 MW (more than 17 billion kW / h) of electricity, is considered to be the largest in the region.
