The Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States held its 83rd meeting in the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabat.

Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the senior executive committees of the CIS participated in the meeting chaired by Turkmenistan this year.

The meeting was chaired by Sergey Lebedev, Chairman and Secretary General of the CIS. He reviewed the results of joint activities aimed at to achieve higher levels of economic co-operation and the implementation of previously reached agreements, including the joint budget of CIS organs.

Then, the draft declaration of the Strategic Economic Cooperation of the member states of the community was discussed as it was proposed by the President of Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that the acceptance of this kind of a document will strengthen the community and develop effective dialogue of CIS. At the meeting, it was decided to strengthen the coordination of the CIS governments’ activities in the field of Socio-Economic Cooperation and the results of the Economic Affairs Commission’s activities were evaluated. At the end of the negotiations, 24 documents on various issues were signed.
