Turkmenistan, along with other countries and the UN world tourism organization (WTO), considered methods to combat COVID-19. According to the Trend Agency, with reference to the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, a regional high-level meeting "Path to recovery" was held on June 1, 2020 in the format of a videoconference. The event was organized by the WTO.

It is noted that the discussions were attended by the UN Secretary-General of the WTO Zurab Pololikashvili, as well as the heads of national tourism administrations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Minister of culture Atageldy Shamuradov took part from the Turkmen side.
It is noted that the main topics of the meeting were the identification of various possible methods to combat coronavirus and the establishment of joint work on the resumption of tourism activities. During the discussions, measures were considered to support the tourism sector, as well as to mitigate the socio-economic consequences of COVID-19. The sides exchanged views on measures to overcome the crisis. Participants familiarized themselves with the recommendations developed by the UN world tourism organization.
