Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on consular issues took place in Astana on October 26, 2018.

Kazakhstan was represented by the head of the consular service department Tauboldy Umbetbaev and  Uzbekistan was represented by the deputy head of the consular and legal department Fariddin Nasriev.During the negotiation, the parties discussed bilateral relations of the states in the consular field and then  signed the protocol. One of the issues during the meeting was the introduction of the Silk Road visa, which will contribute to the development of tourism in two countries. The idea to create a uniform visa between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which should become an analogue of a Schengen visa, was first said by Senator Dariga Nazarbayeva in June of this year. In her opinion, this will allow attracting wealthy tourists to Central Asia.
