Construction of the Darbaza-Maktaaral railway line with a length of 152 km began in Turkestan region of Kazakhstan. The large infrastructure project will add another corridor for transporting goods between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and will optimize transport flows, since it will bypass Tashkent.

As reported by the government of Kazakhstan, the construction of a new railway line will allow redirecting cargo from the existing Saryagash-Tashkent section to a new line, unloading the Saryagash station and increasing export traffic in the direction of Uzbekistan as a whole. In addition, the project will contribute to the development of the Turkestan region by connecting it to the main railway network of the republic.

The construction of a new railway line will create 3,400 jobs. The share of Kazakhstani content in the project will be 85%. They want to complete the road in 2025.
