Qatari companies Nebras Power and Pearl Overseas will build 1.45 gigawatts of generating capacity in Kazakhstan. "We welcome Nebras Power's plans to build a 350 MW hydropower plant and Pearl Overseas' plans to build 1.1 GW of combined-cycle plants in Kazakhstan.
We look forward to further partnerships in manufacturing, technology transfer and expertise in this vital sector," Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's press service quoted him as saying at a Kazakh-Qatari investment roundtable.
He said Kazakhstan's enormous renewable energy potential, estimated at 1 trillion kilowatt-hours, had attracted the attention of global players who have committed to implementing projects with capacity of 43 gigawatts.
The Samruk-Kazyna state fund's press service said a new hydroelectric power station with capacity of up to 350 MW would be built in the east of Kazakhstan on the Irtysh River. It is expected that it will counter-regulate the existing Shulbinskaya hydroelectric power station.
The parties confirmed their intentions to jointly develop the project, and also determined preliminary conditions for cooperation, Samruk-Kazyna said.
