During a meeting held after the 20th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov, discussed a range of issues related to energy cooperation, transit of Kazakh oil, and the implementation of large-scale renewable energy projects.

Notably, in November 2022, an agreement for oil transit along the Aktau-Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route was signed between KazMunayGas (KMG) and SOCAR. The 2023 oil shipment from the Aktau port reached 1,057 thousand tons directed towards the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route, with a planned delivery of 1.5 million tons of Kazakh oil through the BTC in 2024.

Almasadam Satkaliyev emphasized the objective set for their national companies to increase oil supply volumes in line with Kazakhstan’s rising oil production. “In this context, we plan to increase the volume of Kazakh oil supplies,” he stated during the meeting.

The Energy Ministers also discussed the forthcoming efforts to implement a project aimed at connecting the power systems of the Caucasus region and Central Asia through a deep-sea cable laid across the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
