In an interview with the Kommersant newspaper, the Chairman of the Kyrgyzstan Council of Ministers, Akikbek Japarov, said that 50 small hydroelectric power plants (HEPPs) with a capacity of up to 30 megawatts are almost ready for operation.

Akikbek Japarov said, “We will start working to develop the hydroelectric sector. I was in Moscow when I was Deputy Prime Minister and I asked the representatives of Hydroenergoprocekt to come to our country. Thus, we started to implement projects in the field of hydroelectricity. We made a similar request to the Design Institute in St. Petersburg. In addition, our staff visited the "Hydroprect" Institute in Tashkent. ”

Japarov stated that Kyrgyzstan has great potential in the field of hydroelectricity, leaving the Soviet Union with 3.8 billion kilowatts of hydroelectricity.

At the same time, Akikbek Japarov: “We will try to produce 6.6 billion kilowatts of energy in the next ten years. We will do our best to correct the mistakes of previous governments. Although we already have potential in the hydroelectric sector, we could not show it.”

In addition, Kyrgyzstan Council of Ministers Chairman Akikbek Japarov said that the sites for the construction of 50 small hydroelectric power plants (HEPPs) in Kyrgyzstan are ready and will be commissioned in the spring. Japarov added that most of the investors interested in implementing projects to build small hydroelectric power plants (HEPPs) are from Russia.
