The President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov launched the construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor railway. According to the press service of the president, it is planned to lay 5 km of track by the end of the year.

Balykchy-Kochkor (63 km) is the first stage of the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche project (186 km).

"Currently, the laying of 500 meters of the railway line has been completed. By the end of the year, about 5 km of railway is expected to be laid. The full completion and commissioning of the railway is expected by 2030," the message says.

It was noted that the project is currently being implemented at the expense of the country's own funds, without attracting additional investments.

It is expected that the railway will become the least expensive way of transporting coal during the development of the Kara-Keche brown coal deposit to provide the population and the Bishkek thermal power plant with coal.

"The construction of a new railway will also solve a number of issues, such as the development of industrial enterprises, the promotion of the economy, providing transport links to the regions and strengthening the integrity of the country as a whole," the message says.

The Head of State noted that it is gradually necessary to connect the northern and southern parts of the country, continuing the further laying of the railway through Makmal to Jalal-Abad, adding that only then this road will fully work for the benefit of Kyrgyzstan and bring full benefit to the country.
