Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov. This was reported by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic on April 14. The Cabinet of Ministers reported that at the meeting the parties discussed the implementation of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 construction project, Tazabek reports.

In order to achieve a trade turnover of $ 2 billion between the countries, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers proposed to create joint ventures, livestock clusters, logistics centers and free economic zones in the border area.

Kyrgyzstan also proposed projects within the framework of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund. Among them: the construction of a trade and logistics center for cross-border trade in the city of Kyzyl-Kiya, the construction of the Irkeshtam—Daraot-Korgon—Uch-Korgon highway connecting this center with the China—Kyrgyzstan—Uzbekistan multimodal transport corridor.

The construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 was included in the National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026.

On March 13, 2021, the presidential press service reported that following the visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to Uzbekistan, an agreement was signed on the joint preparation of the investment project "Construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1" in the Kyrgyz Republic.

On June 17, 2021, at that time, Taalaibek Bektenov, General Director of JSC Electricheskie Stantsii, said that the capacity of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 reservoir would be 5.4 billion cubic meters. He added that the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 will be a counter regulator of the Toktogul HPP. T.Bektenov added that the estimated cost of the feasibility study project is $ 2.9 billion, and the construction period is 12 years.
