Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will cost about US$8 billion, reports Kaktus.Media, citing Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov.

Akylbek Japarov also noted that preparations for the start of implementation of this logistics project have already been completed. Japarov added that all procedures have been completed, and construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is expected to begin this year. According to him, the new road will allow project participants to enter the so-called Middle Route, which includes Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and the Caspian Sea, and connect it with a network of railways and sea routes in Europe and around the world.

“Kyrgyzstan will finally get rid of the status of a dead-end landlocked country,” Japarov said. According to him, the feasibility study of the railway construction project is currently being updated.

At the beginning of 2024, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov stated that the railway project from China to Uzbekistan would pay for itself in 35-40 years. This initiative will allow Kyrgyzstan to become a transit state.

Let us recall that the agreement on the construction of this railway was signed in 2022 on the sidelines of the SCO summit. The project is expected to be launched this year.
