The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan has increased fivefold over the past five years, amounting to $ 100 million. Trend reports that the director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Eldor Aripov announced it today at the webinar "25 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan".

Over the past few years, bilateral relations between the two countries have reached a fundamentally new level, since 2017 more than 14 meetings have been held on the development of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Eldor Aripov noted economic cooperation, industrial cooperation, transport and logistics cooperation and tourism.

According to him, new assembly lines of cars by UzAuto motors in cooperation with Azermash have been launched between the countries. The increase in cargo transportation between the countries was also noted. Aripov said that the optimization of Uzbek cargo tariffs on the territory of Azerbaijan had led to an increase in the volume of cargo transportation. As he said, the countries are actively cooperating in the field of transport communications. Aripov stressed the importance of interregional cooperation between the Bukhara and Fergana regions of Uzbekistan and the regions of Azerbaijan.

The director of the institute said about cooperation within the framework of international organizations, among which he noted the Organization of Turkic States. He also reported on cooperation in the refining of oil and petroleum products, the chemical industry, and the military-industrial complex. Aripov also mentioned the tourism sector. He said that the number of tourists in the pre-pandemic period increased by 20 percent.
