According to the local media of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan will start work on the trans-Afghan railway in the spring of 2022.

The Mazar-Sharif-Kabil-Peshawar railway will be put into service in the spring of 2022. Uzbekistan Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov met with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Also, Ilhom Mahkamov said that Tashkent is considering training Afghan experts for railway construction. The Special Representative of the Uzbek delegation, Ismatulla Irgashev, also invited Emir Khan Muttaki to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.

According to experts from Uzbekistan, the implementation of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabil-Peshawar railway project will significantly reduce the delivery time to Central Asia, the CIS and Europe. Ismatulla Irgashev said that if the project is fully implemented, the transportation of goods from Pakistan to Uzbekistan will take 5 days instead of 35 days.

At the same time, the volume of freight traffic on this route is expected to reach 10 million tons per year.
