President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Monday, during the presentation of the Uzavtoprom project, instructed to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle industry and expand the service of electric vehicles, the UZ news agency reported.

According to him, electric cars are rapidly entering the daily life of the population, because there is demand, the costs associated with the operation of such cars are less, the service is cheaper. "Most importantly, our people prefer them. Therefore, we need to provide the population with affordable, low-cost, modern electric vehicles," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The Head of State instructed to create enterprises together with a foreign company with experience in this field, and to organize the production of popular models of electric vehicles. I paid special attention to the fact that electric cars were affordable.

The task has been set to expand the network of service points for electric vehicles. In particular, it is planned to install two thousand charging stations in parking lots, fuel stations and highways in the next two years, to which various benefits will be applied.

The importance of training specialists for the industry is emphasized. Plans for the organization of a scientific laboratory of electric vehicles at the Turin Polytechnic University, advanced training of teachers and specialists in China, Germany, the USA, South Korea and other countries are presented.

Recall that the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan in 2022-2026 sets goals for the transition to a "green" economy, including the production of electric vehicles. At a meeting in February of this year, the head of state gave specific instructions in this direction.

Today, 20 Chinese-made electric buses run in Tashkent. Next year, it is planned to bring another 200 electric buses to the capital and 100 to Samarkand.

According to the State Statistics Committee of the Republic, in the first eight months of 2022, Uzbekistan imported 1,499 electric vehicles from abroad. This year, the import of electric vehicles increased by 1,003 units compared to the corresponding period of 2021. Uzbekistan imported the largest number of electric vehicles in January-August of this year from China (1.3 thousand), the UAE (110), Germany (34), Hong Kong (30) and from other countries (19).
