According to the press service of the Turkmen leader, on Tuesday, October 9 during the visit of the Russian delegation to Ashgabat headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia - Head of the Government Office Konstantin Chuychenko, Gazprom chairman Alexei Miller met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

According to the statement, various aspects of the implementation of the current intergovernmental Agreement between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan on cooperation in the gas sector until 2028 were discussed, including the resumption of purchases of Turkmen gas from January 1, 2019.

Russia and Turkmenistan are arguing over the price of gas supplies in the Stockholm arbitration. In early June 2015, Gazprom Export initiated proceedings against Turkmengas in the arbitration court of Stockholm. In its claims, the Russian company requested the arbitration court to reconsider the price of natural gas purchased from Turkmengaz.

In January 2016, Turkmengaz announced that Gazprom had terminated a contract with it from January 1. The Russian holding called the reason for termination serious breach of contract by Turkmengas. Later, Gazprom and Turkmengaz suspended arbitration proceedings until December 31, 2018 in order to find a mutually acceptable decision on further cooperation.
