The delegation of Turkmenistan visited Brussels where they held a number of meetings, including with the Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Shefchovich and representatives of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission. Deputy Prime Minister M. Meredov informed about the results of the trip of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

According to him, during the negotiations, the sides discussed issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the energy sector, the modernization of the legal framework of the partnership, and the implementation of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline construction project. The topics of further improvement of the principles of the Caspian Development Corporation (CDC), the continuation of the negotiations of the working group on the implementation of this energy project, including economic, environmental and commercial issues, were touched upon.

The EU has shown interest in the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline and the supply of Turkmen natural gas to the European market. According to the participants, the European Union expressed its readiness to help attract investment in the implementation of this energy project.

 M.Meredov noted that with the adoption of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea created the necessary legal basis for laying a gas pipeline across the Caspian Sea. Now, for the implementation of the project required the consent of the parties participating in the project and an environmental assessment that meets the requirements of international standards.

The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project envisages for the supply of the Turkmen energy carrier to the European market in the amount of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually for at least 30 years with its transfer to the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea.
