On November 22, Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, hosted the Turkmen-Azerbaijani summit talks. Following the meeting between the presidents of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Ilham Aliyev, the parties signed a package of documents.

It has more than 20 intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements and memorandums on bilateral cooperation.

On November 22, the Turkmen-Azerbaijani high-level talks began in the Oguzkhan Palace Complex. After the meeting in a narrow format, with the participation of official delegations of the two countries negotiations continued in an expanded format.

The parties discussed the intensification of cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, the fuel and energy complex, the diversification of transport flows, the inclusion of new countries and regions in the geography, and also in the humanitarian field.

At the conclusion of the negotiations in an expanded format, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents was held. Presidents Berdymukhamedov and Aliyev signed the Joint Statement. Then, in the presence of the heads of state, more than 20 documents were signed on cooperation between countries in the trade and economic sphere, in the industrial, transport, transit and logistics industry, as well as in the field of science.

Ashgabat and Baku also signed programs for trade and economic cooperation between the governments of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan for 2019-2021, cooperation in the field of transport between the governments of the two countries for 2019-2022, cooperation between governments in the field of science, education, culture and art for 2019-2021.
