The provision on the national sea transporters is being prepared in Turkmenistan.
This issue was discussed at a meeting of the country's government. In particular, the Turkmen State Maritime and River Transport Service is preparing a document in which the closed joint-stock company "The Naval Fleet ” will be designated as a national maritime transport company.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov put an emphasis on the strategic importance of Turkmenbashi international port for all Central Asian and Caspian countries. The opening ceremony of the port was held in May 2018.
The project is designed in accordance with the GreenPort international standard.
The port's annual production capacity will be 17-18 million tons. With the current port this figure will be 25-26 million tons. After the new port was put into service, great opportunities emerged to transport the cargoes from Turkmenbash along the Silk Road route to the European countries from the Asia-Pacific region and then from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iranian ports.
