On January 10, 2022 doctoral student of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University ALKEYEVA Danara gave a seminar on “Contemporary political trends of human security in Kazakhstan”. The seminar was part of her internship at the Center for Central Asian Studies at the Kyrgyz-Turkish University “Manas”.

The seminar featured her PhD research on human security in Kazakhstan. Having briefly presented basic theoretical approaches to the study of international and regional security, the doctoral student presented her analysis of the evolution of security conceptions, as well as international experience in implementing human security in Kazakhstan’s reality. According to the speaker, in Kazakhstan the problems of security in general and human security in particular, generated by the economic, political, social and humanitarian challenges are not limited to the territorial boundaries of Kazakhstan. Instead, they are rather urgent international issues, because if ignored, they may subsequently lead to social and political instability, cause even more challenges and increase conflict potential in the entire Central Asian region. In her presentation, the speaker tried to point out these challenges and suggested possible ways to fight them.

At the end of the seminar, the Center’s staff and university professors discussed the theoretical and practical relevance of the research, shared opinions and gave valuable recommendations to the young researcher.
