Hungarian energy company MVM CEEnergy and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed an agreement in Baku on Friday, according to which 100 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas will be delivered to Hungary by the end of the year.

As transmits Vesti.az with reference to TASS, this was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjarto.

"According to the agreement signed today between the Hungarian company MVM CEEnergy and the Azerbaijani company SOCAR, 100 million cubic meters of natural gas will be delivered to Hungary from Azerbaijan by the end of the year. Today, the security of Hungary's energy supply has increased even more, since diversification is not a replacement of geographical dependencies, but the attraction of as many new sources as possible to ensure the reliability of supplies. This is exactly what we are doing: the beginning supplies can become the basis for a long-term gas purchase contract, under which up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year will be delivered to us from the Caucasus," the Foreign Minister wrote on his Facebook page.

Budapest and Baku announced in December that they had reached a political agreement on the upcoming supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Hungary, according to which their volume will amount to 100 million cubic meters by the end of this year, and in the future it will increase to 1-2 billion cubic meters per year.
