The 8th Meeting of the Ministers in Charge of Tourism of the Organization of Turkic States convened on 11 October 2023 in the city of Turkistan, Kazakhstan.

According to Report, The Azerbaijani delegation was also represented at the event. Speaking at the meeting, Advisor to the Chairman of the State Agency of Azerbaijan for Tourism Kenan Quluzade noted that in recent years the statistics of tourists from Turkic states visiting Azerbaijan has been increasing. According to Quluzade, the number of citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan who visited Azerbaijan in January-September this year increased by 32, 59, 20, 91, 78 and 188 percent respectively.

Kenan Quluzade also noted that an increase in the number of direct flights between the cities has been recorded and emphasized that this process is carried out on a bilateral basis.

The Advisor to the Chairman said that Azerbaijan will host a total of two million foreign citizens by the end of 2023, and this number is expected to reach 4 million in 2026. He noted that in 2026 tourism incomes are forecasted at the level of AZN 10 billion.

In addition, the participants of the event were informed about the project on election of Shamakhy as the tourist capital of the Turkic world for 2023. As a result of the meeting, the city Turkistan in Kazakhstan was elected as the tourist capital of the Turkic world for 2024.
