The new tanker Zangilan, built at the Baku Shipyard for the State Caspian Sea Shipping Company (ASCO), completed its first commercial voyage on July 17. The vessel successfully transported a shipment of Turkmen crude oil from the Aladja port in Turkmenistan to the Sangachal Sea Port in Azerbaijan, Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan reports.

The oil delivered by the Zangilan is intended for further transit through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, highlighting the strategic importance of this route for energy resource exports.

Officially launched on July 2, 2024, in Baku with President Aliyev in attendance, the Zangilan is a modern, next-generation ship. The tanker measures 141 meters in length and 16.9 meters in width, equipped with six cargo tanks and a total cargo capacity of 7,800 tons.

The successful completion of the Zangilan's inaugural voyage underscores the strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in energy resource transportation and opens new opportunities for maritime shipping in the Caspian Sea.
