According to Turkmen State News Agency, at a meeting of the government which held on Friday, November 2, Deputy Prime Minister Mammetkhan Chakiyev reported on the results of the working visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan.

During the meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, it was proposed to establish an intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani commission on transit and transport cooperation. İt was also noted the great importance of the international transport corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lazurit).

Along with this, within the framework of bilateral working meetings were considered the potential and prospects for the development of the two countries transport systems, and proposals for joint actions to attract transit cargo and to create a logistics system.

As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan is ready to act as an active partner and participant in the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) program.

The President of Turkmenistan highlighted the importance of creating an international transport corridor Lazurit, which, running through the country, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, will contribute to strengthen productive cooperation in a wide geo-economic area, including the regions of Central and South Asia, the Caspian and Black Sea basins.

In this regard the Turkmen leader gave the Deputy Prime Minister instructed to take steps to establish the intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani commission to discuss cooperation in the sphere of transport, detailed analysis and timely resolution of all relevant tasks.

The delegation of Turkmenistan visited Brussels where they held a number of meetings, including with the Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Shefchovich and representatives of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission.
