President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the capital Ashgabat during a two-day official visit.
After the talks, Tokayev and Berdimuhamedov made a statement at a joint press conference.
In his speech, Tokayev emphasized that relations with Turkmenistan develop within the framework of friendship, good neighborliness and mutual support.
“We are completing the legal registration of the land and sea border between our countries”
Tokayev noted that agreements have been signed between the two countries in many areas.
"Among them, the Kazakh-Turkmen state border and the agreement on the designation of adjacent fishing areas in the Caspian Sea, as well as the agreement on the intergovernmental border regime, are of great importance. Thus, we complete the legal registration of the land and sea border between our countries. This has political significance," Tokayev said.
Kazakhstan is ready to increase imports of Turkmen gas
Noting that they have large reserves to increase mutual trade, Kassym Jomart Tokayev declared his readiness to export $130 million worth of products to Turkmenistan. "Kazakhstan, in particular, is ready to significantly increase the import of Turkmen gas," Tokayev said.
An attempt to build a bridge over the Karabogaz Bay from Turkmenistan
Berdimuhammedov stressed that Turkmenistan pays great attention to friendship, good-neighborliness and comprehensive development of ties with Kazakhstan, which have common historical roots.
President Berdimuhamedov also expressed Turkmenistan's initiative to build a bridge over the Karabogaz Bay to reach Kazakhstan by highway.
During the visit, cooperation agreements were signed between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, covering, in particular, issues of delimitation of state borders, defense, trade, transport, agriculture, environment, telecommunications, information, education and culture.
