Energy Minister Magzum Mirzagaliev said that following the results of the trade and investment forum held in the UAE (Dubai), which took place within the framework of the National Day of Kazakhstan at EXPO 2020 Dubai, a number of investment agreements were signed with the UAE in the energy sector, Kazpravda.kz reports.

The forum was attended by representatives of government agencies, business circles, national holdings and development institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the UAE. "We are talking about attracting foreign investment to our country, including in the energy sector. Arab investors are ready to invest more than $6 billion. We are talking about creating new stations with a capacity of about 5 GW, of which 2 GW are solar plants, 2 GW are wind park and 1 GW is gas generation, which we plan to locate in the south of the country," the head of the Ministry of Energy said.

Also, according to him, UAE investors are showing interest in the renewable energy sector. "Land plots are provided from our side. Plus, it will be necessary to provide connection points from the system operator, i.e. those points where this electricity will be supplied," the minister explained.

These projects, Magzum Mirzagaliev stressed, are important from the point of view of ensuring the advanced development of the electric power industry, the development of new capacities.

"You know that now the whole world, and Kazakhstan is no exception, has taken the direction of green energy and the economy, so such investments in renewable sources are very necessary. Our task is to reduce emissions by 15% by 2030 in accordance with the Paris Agreement, moreover the Head of State announced Kazakhstan's course to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. In this regard, it is thanks to such projects the transition to "green rails" will be ensured," he said.

Currently, Emirati companies are involved in the implementation of 11 major investment projects in Kazakhstan with a total value of over $ 3.5 billion.
