A new wind power plant (WPP) with a capacity of 60 MW, which is being built 140 km from Almaty, is planned to be put into operation by early August 2022.

The station will generate 225.7 million kWh of electricity per year. The construction and launch of the wind farm will reduce up to 206 thousand tons of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as replace about 89 thousand tons of conventional fuel per year, the correspondent of the Kapital business information center reports.kz with reference to the press service of Samruk-Energo.

The energy facility is being built in the Enbekshikazakh district of Almaty region in the so–called Shelek corridor - a unique region for the development of renewable energy potential, where the average annual wind speed at an altitude of 50 meters is 7.8 m/s, the flow density is 310 W/m2. In the future, the capacity of the wind farm is planned to increase to 300 MW.

The project, the total cost of which is 37.4 billion tenge, provides for the construction of 24 wind power plants, each with a nominal capacity of 2.5 MW, substations, overhead power transmission lines and related infrastructure. The main equipment of the station is manufactured by GoldWind. Samruk-Energo is implementing the project in partnership with the Chinese corporation Power China.

As of today, there are 5 renewable energy facilities in Samruk-Energo. Their total electricity generation for 2021 amounted to 325.3 million kWh. This is 7.7% of the volume of electricity generated by all renewable energy facilities in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

By this time, in addition to the wind power plant in the Almaty region, Samruk-Energo is implementing a project for the construction of a wind farm in the area of the city of Yerementau, Akmola region, with a capacity of 50 MW.
