The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan amounted to $228.8 million in seven months of 2022, which is close to the volume of trade turnover last year, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan Askar Tazhibaev announced in an article published on Wednesday in the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".

He said that the trade turnover between the countries amounted to $254.3 million in 2021, adding that this is almost twice as much as in 2020.

"The heads of our states have set the task of bringing the level of trade to $1 billion in the next five years," Tazhibayev noted.

The Kazakh ambassador also highlighted the active development of cross-border cooperation between the countries.

"Much attention is paid to the interaction between Mangistau region of Kazakhstan and Balkan velayat of Turkmenistan. We plan to create a special border trade zone on the border of the two countries in future," Askar Tazhibayev added.

He noted that the first state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Kazakhstan will take place on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries. The preparations for visit are at the final stage.
