Turkish businessmen will provide Kazakh farmers with 1,000 tons of high-quality cotton seeds on favorable terms. Such an agreement was reached in Shymkent during the business forum "Prospects for the development of cotton growing in the Republic of Kazakhstan," the correspondent of the Kapital.kz business information center reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the forum, the Turkish company PROgen presented new varieties of cotton that are resistant to diseases and pests. Seeds will be sold to domestic plant growers in installments. The SEC "Turkestan" is ready to provide the loan for the purchase by the end of the year. Earlier, a corresponding memorandum on cooperation in the development of seed production was signed between Kazakhstan and Turkey.
"The issue of increasing the share of Kazakhstani content in public procurement, including household goods and cotton processing products, is being worked out. At the first stage, national companies will have to purchase up to 70% of domestic cotton products: bed linen, towels, etc. When forming the state defense order, it is also planned to increase the share of local content from 30% to 70%," Vice Minister of Agriculture Abulkhair Tamabek said.
According to the results of the forum, the Institute of Agricultural Research of the Eastern Mediterranean of the Republic of Turkey and Kazakh Research Institute of Cotton Growing LLP signed an agreement on cooperation in conducting joint scientific research and breeding new varieties of cotton.
Recall that the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan is developing a comprehensive plan for the development of the selection and seed industry.
