A number of key issues of interstate cooperation were discussed by the heads of government of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Alikhan Smailov and Abdulla Aripov in Almaty.

The parties "checked the clock" on plans to increase cooperation in the trade and economic, transit and transport, water and energy sectors, as well as joint steps in industrial cooperation and agriculture.

Alikhan Smailov stressed that strong harmonious relations have been established between the republics, which are dynamically developing in all areas. Thus, according to the results of last year, bilateral trade grew by almost 30% and reached the planned milestone of US$5 billion.

“This was made possible thanks to our joint efforts. Now, in accordance with the tasks set at the highest level, we need to increase the volume of mutual trade to US$10 billion in the medium term,” the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted.

According to him, in this context, the timely implementation of the road maps signed last year and the active work of the Kazakh-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission are important.

“The government of Kazakhstan is ready for an active dialogue in all areas of our cooperation,” Alikhan Smailov added.

For his part, Abdulla Aripov noted that the countries have gained positive experience in industrial cooperation, especially in the automotive industry. The development of promising projects in the oil and gas, chemical, energy, metallurgical and other industries has begun.

“It is necessary to separately note the close cooperation in agriculture and the transport and logistics sector, especially in terms of the development of new transport corridors. We also highly appreciate direct contacts between the regions of our countries, which allow us to fully realize the potential of cooperation between our fraternal peoples,” said Abdulla Aripov.
