The trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan increased by 72% in 2022, amounting to about $438 million, the Ministry of Economy of Kazakhstan said, referring to the statement of First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar at the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Kazakhstani-Turkmen Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, held on May 15 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, which was co-chaired by Sklyar and Batyr Atdaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the parties signed several agreements in the fields of agriculture, energy, transport, and logistics.

Kazakhstan proposed to establish close cooperation between the export insurance company KazakhExport and banks in Turkmenistan. Roman Sklyar also stressed the need for speedy implementation of the grain terminal project on the Turkmen-Afghan border.

The Kazakh delegation stressed its interest in buying Turkmen natural and liquefied petroleum gas. As of March 2023, 53 investment projects with the participation of Kazakhstani companies have been registered in Turkmenistan.
