The volume of intraregional accumulated direct investment in Central Asia is estimated at US$1.1 billion for the first half of 2023, which is 1.8 times higher than the level of 2016. This was reported by the press service of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

The main areas of mutual investment are raw materials industries (31.7 percent), manufacturing industry (25 percent) and financial services (21.9 percent). The main domestic investors in the region are Kazakhstan (with a share of about 87 percent) and Uzbekistan (13 percent).

The main recipient of mutual investments in Central Asia is Kyrgyzstan with a share of 63 percent. It is followed by Uzbekistan (24 percent) and Kazakhstan (11 percent).

Kazakhstan strengthened its position as a leader in attracted accumulated mutual investments in the Eurasian region with a share of 27.2 percent. for June 2023 versus 26.6 percent. in 2021. Other major investment importing countries in the region are Uzbekistan (19.8 percent), Belarus (12 percent), Russia (9.8 percent) and Azerbaijan (8.7 percent).
