Kazakhstan intends to join the project on transit of electric power from Central Asia to the south CASA-1000 by 2029. This was stated by Chairman of the Board of KEGOS Nabi Aitzhanov, speaking at a meeting of the government of Kazakhstan on January 16, Kazakh media reports.

To implement this task, Kazakhstan has developed a large-scale program to develop the industry for 18 trillion tenge. It involves the construction of new power plants with a total capacity of over 26 GW to overcome the deficit and supply electricity for export.

In addition, Kazakhstan intends to implement by the end of 2028 a project for the construction of power transmission lines to connect the power grids of the western zone with the Unified Power System of the country. It is also planned to build "North-South" DC lines with a voltage of 500 kV to further strengthen the connection between the northern and southern regions and increase the transit potential of Kazakhstan.

"The realization of the project will allow Kazakhstan to join the CASA-1000 project and expand its electricity markets to South Asia. Pre-project study has already started on this project and a preliminary feasibility study has been developed. The implementation period is 2029," Aitzhanov said.
