The leaders of Russia and Uzbekistan held fruitful negotiations, during which they set guidelines for the work of ministries, departments and organizations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a joint statement on the results of the negotiations, which will allow deepening bilateral relations. The parties concluded not only important bilateral agreements, but also large commercial contracts.

 Economy

Among the documents signed are the economic cooperation program of the two governments for 2019-2024 and a plan for its implementation. Russia and Uzbekistan also decided to create a Russian-Uzbek commission to improve cooperation in the economic sphere. The Commission will deal with strategic issues of economic, investment and technological interaction.In addition, the Minister of Industry of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and the Minister of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Zhamshid Khodzhayev signed an agreement on cooperation in the textile, clothing and knitwear industries. The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia in the coming years will reach 10 billion dollars, said Mirziyoyev. He clarified that since the beginning of the year it has grown by 30%.

 After talks with Putin, Mirziyoyev said that Uzbekistan expect that the volume of mutual trade will amount to 6 billion dollars, and in the coming years will reach 10 billion dollars. He also said that Russia's investments in the Uzbek economy today exceed $ 8.5 billion, and a new package of agreements and trade contracts with leading Russian companies and banks has been drafted in the amount of about $ 25 billion.

 Petroleum Understanding

The president of Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov, and the chairman of Uzbekneftegaz, Bahrom Ashrafkhanov, signed a memorandum of understanding. The parties intend to develop cooperation and exchange experience in the field of exploration in the territory of Uzbekistan, the Russian company’s press service specified.

 Power industry

Vladimir Putin said that the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, being built as part of the Rosatom project, will meet the highest safety standards and the most stringent environmental requirements. He also noted that the Power Machines Company, which helps to modernize the Syrdarya thermal power plant and Charvak hydroelectric station, contributes to the development of Uzbekistan’s power industry. In addition, the president of the Russian Federation said that the Uzbek partners have received specific proposals on the formation of the Central Asian energy ring, which would unite the energy systems of the states of the region.

 Science and Culture

The parties signed a program of cooperation between governments in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, as well as on the creation and functioning of Russian universities in Uzbekistan. Also in Tashkent they plan to release a collection of masterpieces of Russian literature in Uzbek in 100 volumes.

Positive Perspectives

 Vladimir Putin noted that Uzbekistan is a "reliable ally and strategic partner" of Russia. He expressed confidence that not only in the long term, but also in the medium term, the economy and life of the people of Uzbekistan will change fundamentally for the better.  The Russian leader stressed that Russia intends to continue moving at the same pace and will do everything to expand the base of Russia's cooperation, including through regional cooperation.
