In September 2019, the South Korean Hyundai will commission a factory for the production of commercial vehicles in the Namangan region in eastern Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti (RIA News) reported on Monday.
According to the administration, last weekend was held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hyundai-Namangan KD plant in the Turakurgan district of the Namangan region.
"It is expected that the first products of the new plant will be released in September 2019," said a government official. According to him, at the first stage it is planned to produce up to 400 trucks, minibuses and buses, with a gradual increase in production up to 2.5 thousand units. In the medium term, production localization rate can reach 50% of the cars.
In November 2017, in the framework of the visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to South Korea, signed a memorandum of understanding on the organization of mass production of Hyundai cars in Uzbekistan. The document was signed between the State Investment Committee of the Republic and Evergreen Motors, the official distributor of KIA and Hyundai in the CIS. The volume of investment in production will be about 200 million dollars.
