The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Trade reported that the European Union has allocated € 5 million to Uzbekistan as support for the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The EU decision was announced during a meeting with the head of the EU delegation in Uzbekistan Eduards Stiprays and the head of the technical cooperation department of the delegation Francois Bejo.

The project will be implemented by the International Trade Center (ITC), the UN Conference on Trade and Development and the WTO.

Taking into account EU procedures for approving projects, the delegation of the European Union confirmed that ITC, without waiting for the completion of these procedures, will begin practical implementation of the project in the near future.

Rane Spot wrote that a member of the Presidium of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, Klaus Mangold, expressed the hope that Uzbekistan would join the WTO in  2019. It is expected that this will significantly expand the opportunities of foreign investors.
