Ankara was the brother city of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

Tashkent’s Governor Jahongir Artihozhayev, Ankara’s Mayor Mansur Yavash and accompanying delegation had a meeting, where the two sides exchanged views on the cooperation and future work. The city Governor of Tashkent Artihozhayev, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirzoyev’s had officially visited Turkey. Turkey invested 3.5 billion US dollars in 30 spring into action projects. Ankara’s Mayor Yavash said that the fraternal relations between the two countries and the two cities would be beneficial for both sides. Today, 500 Turkish companies are operating in Uzbekistan, the annual trade volume of these companies is stated to be 2 billion USD.

During the meeting in Tashkent, the parties signed a protocol on the declaration of “City Brotherhood” of Ankara and Tashkent for the purpose of developing cooperation and close relations. Tashkent’s Governor Artihocayev stated that the protocol was important for cooperation in the fields of economy, manufacturing, construction, art, culture and tourism of two countries and two cities. Some of the streets in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara are named after Ankara. Moreover, Artihocayev offered there to give the name of Ankara to a street in Tashkent. Yavash and his delegation completed their journey by visiting historical and cultural places in Tashkent.
