Iran is ready to play the role of a transit country, For connecting Uzbekistan with the countries of North Africa, discoveries in sea, construction of rail and roads in the North-South transport corridor.
This was stated by the Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran Reza Rahmani at a meeting with the Uzbek Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov in Tashkent.
According to Rahmani, Iran may open a transit corridor for Uzbekistan for unlimited transportation of goods from North Africa and the Persian Gulf countries. The Iranian minister said that Tashkent and Tehran could sign preferential trade tariffs and use the local currency for financial transactions.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of expanding mutual trade and attracting Iranian investments in the Uzbek economy in agriculture, fisheries and construction. In addition, the parties discussed specific proposals to facilitate the conditions for mutual trade by ensuring mutual recognition of phytosanitary control requirements.
