The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of health of Uzbekistan together with the world Bank presented a project for emergency response to COVID-19 coronavirus infection in the country, the press service of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
The project implementation includes three components. The first is to strengthen the national health system ($29.5 million). In particular, it is planned to purchase essential equipment, supplies, communications equipment and personal protective equipment for rapid response teams at the regional and district levels. Fifteen laboratories will be equipped with test systems for diagnosing coronavirus and others.
The second is financial support for individuals and households (69.5 million dollars). As part of this direction, it is planned to expand the system of temporary cash benefits for the low-income, increasing the coverage of the population with social assistance beyond 60 thousand families (the level set by the government before the covid-19 outbreak).
The third is to support the administrative and human resources needed for the project ($1 million). This component provides funding for staff and consultants related to project management, procurement, technical assistance, and more.
It is expected that the world Bank will allocate $ 30 million for the project, which will be used for the purchase of medical equipment, personal protective equipment and medicines. A document with the final project activities will be published soon after the project is approved.
In Uzbekistan, as of April 13, the number of people infected with coronavirus increased by 133 to 998. The total number of recovered — 85, four died.
