On February 7, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with a Turkish delegation that arrived in Uzbekistan, headed by the Chairperson of the Commission on Gender Equality of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Fatma Aksal.
At the beginning of the talks, Tanzila Narbaeva touched upon the fundamental political and socio-economic reforms carried out in Uzbekistan, as well as work to ensure gender equality. In this context, a new level of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkey was emphasized in all areas, including between parliaments.
The main topic of discussion was the issue of ensuring gender equality and protecting the interests of women.
During the exchange of views on this issue, Fatma Aksal acknowledged that Uzbekistan is making great strides. It was emphasized that “in our country, increased attention is paid to women’s issues, equal opportunities are created for women and men, practical work is underway to improve working and living conditions, eliminate cases of violence against women, support people with disabilities”.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to expand effective cooperation through the implementation of joint projects and programs in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in:
- trade, economic, investment and other spheres;
- establishing cooperation in priority areas for both countries, including in the sphere of realization of women's economic opportunities;
- establishing direct links between the regions of the countries.
