Uzbekistan has agreed with Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to provide discounts on cargo transit, First Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Aziz Voitov said. According to him, at the meeting held the day before, the president gave instructions to further reduce the transport costs of exporting enterprises.

"Recently we were able to reach an agreement with partner countries, in particular, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Now the ports of these countries are delivering goods 30 percent cheaper. In addition, we were able to negotiate and reduce costs in the Caspian Sea. There is also an agreement to reduce transport costs by 50 percent with the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku," the deputy minister said on the Uzbekistan-24 TV channel.

Voitov added that ministries and departments are working on opening new transport corridors. "As part of this work, on March 16, cargo was first sent to Uzbekistan from the port of Mumbai through Pakistan and Afghanistan. This has become a historic event. We will continue to work on increasing opportunities for developing the potential of this transport corridor," he stressed. According to the official, the Agency for the Promotion of Exports of the Republic of Uzbekistan compensates for the transport costs of exporters up to 70 percent.
