According to the news of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, the President of Uzbekistan has issued a decree on the measures for the implementation of the project regarding the construction and operation of a 100 megawatt (MW) wind power plant in Karakalpakstan's Karauzyak district within the framework of public-private partnership.

As a result of the international tender held with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia won the tender with a tariff of 2.5695 US cents per 1 kilowatt-hour electricity.

Within the scope of the project, the investor will install overhead power lines, substations and switchgear to connect the wind farm to a single power system, and then it will be transferred to the National Electricity Grids of Uzbekistan.

The cost of the project is $107.8 million and is 100 percent funded by the investor (ACWA Power). The power plant will be commissioned in 2024. When the facility is commissioned, it will generate 350 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which will provide electricity to more than 120,000 families.

In addition, it is expected that the commissioning of the station will save 106 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and prevent the emission of 160 thousand tons of greenhouse gases. Thanks to the gas saved, natural gas will be supplied to 35 thousand houses in one year. 400 people will take part in the construction of the new wind farm, and when the facility is operational, 30 new jobs will be created.
