On May 16, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of Azerbaijan headed by Chairman of the country's Food Safety Agency Tahmazli Goshgar, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan reported.

The Uzbek side at the talks was headed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Kakhramon Yuldashev.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the state and prospects of Uzbek-Azerbaijani cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, joint activities in ensuring food security and exchange of experience.

In the first three months of this year, the turnover of agricultural products between the two countries amounted to 5.3 million dollars. Grapes, beans, peanuts, as well as seeds of several varieties of cotton were sent to Azerbaijan from Uzbekistan. In turn, it is planned to send hazelnut seedlings from Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan.

During the visit to the capital of Uzbekistan, members of the Azerbaijani delegation intend to hold a series of meetings with representatives of the Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency, the State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Development Committee and the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service.

Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have been cooperating in the agricultural sector since 2002, when a corresponding interdepartmental agreement was signed.
