The issues of stimulating the production of electric vehicles with their phased release of 15-25 thousand per year were discussed at a meeting with the participation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the republic's media reported, Interfax-Kazakhstan writes.
According to them, the need for state support of the industry was discussed. In particular, it is planned to exempt electric vehicles manufactured in the republic from the recycling fee, components and spare parts imported for them, equipment and raw materials from customs duty. "At the meeting, the responsible persons noted that as a result of these measures, it is possible to gradually establish the production of 15-25 thousand electric vehicles per year in the republic," the message says.
To popularize the use of locally produced electric vehicles, it is envisaged that a certain part of the interest on loans issued for their purchase will be compensated by the state. It also planned to provide support for the purchase of electric vehicles by public administration and local authorities. Persons providing services for the transportation of passengers in cars of this type will be granted a privilege to pay the state fee for the license. Taking into account the availability of reserves of copper raw materials in the country, specialized clusters are being created. On their basis, the production of components for electric vehicles and charging stations will be launched. "This direction should create competition in the automotive industry," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev, quoted by the media. The President instructed to discuss the opportunities created with potential investors, based on their opinions and proposals to expand support measures, attract the private sector to the industry, the report says.
In February of this year, Uzavtoprom signed a memorandum of cooperation with BYD Auto Industry, the largest Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles. The document provides for the study of the feasibility of implementing a joint project for the production of passenger cars and buses using new energy sources in Uzbekistan.
