The project for the construction of a wind power plant in the city of Zarafshan in Navoi region of Uzbekistan was recognized as the deal of the year in Central Asia according to the PFI (Project Finance International) Awards, the press service of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan reports.

The project will be implemented with the participation of the Emirati company Masdar according with the Investment Agreement concluded between the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan and Masdar company. The capacity of the future power plant will be 500 MW; 600 million dollars of foreign direct investment will be allocated for the implementation of the project.

After the launch, the power plant will generate up to 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours per year and will reduce about 545 million cubic meters of gas used for electricity generation.

The construction of a wind power plant in Zarafshan is part of a project to bring the share of renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan to 25 percent by 2026.

The PFL (Project Finance International) Awards is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the field of project financing. It is awarded annually to the best project financing deals in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the USA.
